OPPO Find X8 Pro Review: Premium Design Meets High Performance

The OPPO Find X8 Pro has recently made its debut in China, bringing a fresh design but retaining some familiar features. While the standard OPPO Find X8 remains highly sought after and is already sold out, we managed to get our hands on the Pro version. Here’s our hands-on review of OPPO’s flagship model of the year, the Find X8 Pro, which combines design changes and advanced features aimed at competing in the high-end market.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Opening the box, the setup feels similar to previous models in the Find series. Inside, you get the basics: a SIM ejector pin, user manuals, a soft case, and an 80-watt charger with a USB-A charging port. The absence of a vegan leather back option this year might disappoint fans, but OPPO has maintained a sophisticated look that still feels premium in hand.

Design and Build Quality

The Find X8 Pro carries forward the design language of its predecessor, the Find X7 series, but with some modifications. OPPO has positioned the “Oppo” logo centrally this time, giving it a more balanced aesthetic. Although the frame isn’t completely flat and features a slight curve, the phone offers a comfortable grip and doesn’t pinch the palm, a minor complaint some users had with the previous model.

One standout feature is the redesigned camera control button. This button brings a user experience familiar to iPhone users, where a double-tap opens the camera, a click takes a photo, a long press activates burst mode, and swiping changes zoom levels. While not everyone may be a fan of this button, it simplifies camera navigation.

Camera Capabilities

As a Pro model, the Find X8 Pro includes a telephoto camera, setting it apart from the standard version. This feature allows for more versatile photography options, enabling users to take close-ups and filter out background elements. Additionally, the new model supports Live Photos—a feature commonly seen on iPhones—which captures a few seconds of video before and after a photo. It’s a convenient option for users looking to capture memories without the need for full videos.

The main camera, while not at an “ultra” level, is expected to meet the needs of most users with its quality and versatility. OPPO has also improved the image processing and added better low-light performance, making the camera suitable for various shooting conditions.

Display Quality

One notable change in the Find X8 Pro is the display. Although it doesn’t feature a 2K resolution, it boasts an impressive brightness of up to 1,750 nits in high-brightness mode, making it ideal for outdoor use. Additionally, OPPO has designed a beautiful quad-curved protective glass that adds to the overall aesthetic appeal, especially from the front.

Performance: Power-Packed Processors

The Find X8 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor, one of the most powerful chipsets currently available, alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite variant in other versions. While our hands-on review didn’t dive deeply into benchmarks, the initial performance in daily tasks and basic gaming sessions has been smooth and responsive. The Find X8 Pro is designed to handle high-intensity tasks and provide a lag-free experience.

Battery Life and Charging

Battery capacity is another area where OPPO has made significant improvements. With close to a 6,000 mAh battery, it’s rare to see this level of capacity in a flagship phone, especially paired with 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. These specs ensure rapid charging times and long-lasting battery life, addressing battery anxiety for power users and gamers alike.

ColorOS 15: A Familiar Yet Enhanced Experience

Running on OPPO’s latest ColorOS 15, the Find X8 Pro offers several new features. Many of these enhancements mirror iOS capabilities, such as advanced photo editing, improved animations, and new app management options. For instance, the OPPO Intelligence feature can now recognize objects and provide information based on voice commands. However, while the voice recognition works seamlessly in Chinese, its performance in English remains limited.

Price and Value for Money

The OPPO Find X8 Pro starts at 5,300 RMB (approximately $744), which is around $150 more than the standard version. While it’s not the most budget-friendly option, it packs in several high-end features and improvements that could justify the price for users seeking a powerful and aesthetically pleasing device.

Overall, the OPPO Find X8 Pro delivers on expectations with its premium design, capable performance, and versatile camera system, even if some features mirror its predecessor closely. Whether this device will hold its value amid upcoming flagship releases remains to be seen, but for now, it’s a solid option in OPPO’s lineup.
