ACER NITRO V15 Gaming Laptop Review

Among our gaming community, the SR Nitro series is quite well-known due to its reliability and affordability. So, for them, we are introducing a new laptop today, the SR Nitro V15. We will evaluate its performance, conduct benchmarking, and play some games.

First, let’s talk about the build quality of this laptop. When you look at the laptop, the first thing that catches your eye is the SR Nitro. The entire design is quite good. A change has been made. The previous SR Nitro models had a very simple design, but this one attempts to bring a more modern look. So, the first thing that will stand out is the new rebranding of SR Nitro, which is noticeable right away.

Overall, you’ll feel a good sense of minimalism in the build. There isn’t a forced attempt to give it a dynamic or aggressive look. In front, you’ll find a digital print. This laptop weighs 2.1 kg, and if we look at the I/O ports, on the left side, there is an Ethernet port, an HDMI port, two Type-A ports, and a Thunderbolt Type-C port. On the right side, there is a Type-A port and a headphone jack.

Build Quality

In terms of build quality, this plastic-built laptop is quite robust and sturdy. Next, if we talk about the keyboard, it features a full-sized keyboard. If you look closely, you’ll notice that the keycaps are a bit small. The problem is that while typing, there were some miss-typings. This can be a bit annoying, but I think you’ll get used to it over time.  Regarding the typing experience on the keyboard, I would say it has a slightly soft feedback. Although most laptops have a similar keyboard experience, typing on this one feels quite good. In other words, it offers a light tactile feedback.

So, typing won’t feel bad, but the keycap size is a bit small. Additionally, you won’t find much RGB scattered throughout this laptop. In previous Nitro series models, there was so much RGB that when you opened the laptop in an official setting, the RGB would be overwhelming. This can look quite bad. However, here you have a backlit keyboard, which is definitely necessary.

Touchpad

Next, if we talk about the touchpad, I found the surface of the touchpad a bit rough to use. So, scrolling was a bit problematic. However, the feedback responsiveness of this touchpad is quite good. Another point to note about the touchpad is that it feels slightly small. If it were a bit bigger, it would have been more comfortable to use.

Sound Quality

Next, if we discuss the sound quality of this laptop, we see that the sound quality is loud and clear. Everything is fine, but the sound quality is not good. In other words, you won’t enjoy listening to music much with it. However, you can perform general tasks very well with it, and it won’t cause you any problems regarding loudness.

Then, if we talk about the webcam, like other laptops, I was disappointed with this one too. Because when I saw through this webcam, it seemed like the whole picture or video was oily. This is quite a bad issue. I mean, even mobile phones priced at 5k or 10k have much better camera quality. Why do laptops have such poor webcam quality?

Display

Next, let’s talk about the display. This laptop has a 15.6-inch full HD 165 Hz IPS panel. To understand this display better, we measured it using the Spyder X Pro. After measuring, we found that it has 100% sRGB, around 76% Adobe RGB, and about 78% DCI-P3 scores. This indicates that the scores are quite good. If you want to do some editing work, you can definitely manage that with this.

The response time of this panel is about 3 milliseconds, which can be considered good. When we tested its brightness, we saw that it produces about 325 nits of brightness in the center, which is sufficient for indoor use. However, it might face some issues when used outdoors, but it will still function. The contrast ratio, when we observed, showed a ratio of 940:1, which is fairly good. Overall, I would say the display is quite good; it’s not bad. You won’t have any issues with viewing angles, whether you’re watching a movie or a TV series.

Just one problem I have is that if its white point were a bit more neutral, it would have been better. In other words, the display seems a bit warmish. But apart from that, everything else feels quite good. So, let’s see how this laptop performs under the hood. If we look under the hood, this laptop has a Core i7 13th generation 13420H CPU. It features four performance cores and eight efficiency cores, making it quad-threaded.

Additionally, this laptop comes with 16 GB DDR5 RAM and a 512 GB PCIe 4 SSD. For graphics, it has an Nvidia 4060. So, in terms of processor, memory, and graphics, this laptop is quite powerful. This laptop is specifically designed for gaming, so we tested its performance while gaming. I played Resistance 2 for a whole night and took some shots while playing to understand the laptop’s fans and thermal throttling.

Gaming Performance

While gaming, I noticed that the laptop’s temperature exceeded 86 degrees Celsius. However, regarding the fans during gaming, they felt a bit curious to me. Anyway, we then observed some gaming benchmarking results. With the 4060 in use, some interesting results came up. We saw that Resistance 2 ran above 60 fps at 1080p. Similarly, the results for Dota 2, Elden Ring, and Tom Clancy’s games were quite impressive to us. Outside of gaming, you can also do 4K video editing on such a gaming laptop. Therefore, we tested it with Final Cut Pro, and it provided a reasonably good experience while editing 4K videos.

If I talk about some more benchmarks, I’d like to mention the performance results. We saw a single-core score of 1563 in Cinebench R23, with a multi-core score of 12600. On the other hand, regarding 3DMark Time Spy, we achieved a score of 10989. Looking at the operating system, you will find Windows 11 on this laptop. Along with that, we can observe some gradual performance during tasks. When I ran the laptop, everything ran smoothly, and it didn’t face any significant issues even under heavy workloads.

Battery

Next, if we look at the battery, it has a 57 WHr battery, providing around 4 to 5 hours of battery life. Although the battery life decreases further during gaming, it still seems quite good.

Thus, our review ends here today.
